Consumers in the U.S. should look out for seemingly legitimate websites that are in fact based in China. These websites often promise competitive prices and attractive designs, as well as phone numbers and addresses that appear to be for businesses in the U.S. Despite the enticing offerings, however, caution must be exercised when procuring products from these sites. The items may arrive in a much lower quality than promised, with delivery times that exceed several weeks or even months. Furthermore, the product may not arrive at all, or be different from the description advertised. Initiating returns can also be a hassle due to language and barrier issues, along with expensive shipping charges. To safeguard against potential scams and fraud, shoppers should engage in extensive research of the website before committing to a purchase.
